Water and Gas Museum
The museum has been established to illustrate the history of gas and water supply in the city of Genoa.
The items on display are related to gas production that started in Genoa in 1845 and ended in 1972 with the advent of natural gas coming from Russia. The exhibit also includes artifacts associated with activities supporting gas distribution such as pipe fitter tools, analytical laboratory instrumentation, gas and water meters, specific equipment, as well as curiosities and historic advertisements.
Furthermore the museum contains a collection of tools, documents and memorabilia on water distribution, illustrating the history of the public and private water companies operating in the Genoa district starting from the 19th century.
Rare volumes and ancient technical manuals on gas production and distribution are housed in a specific section of the library.
The items on display are only a small proportion of the artifacts recovered. Other exhibits of larger size are currently separately stored and not visitable, due to the limited exhibition area.
The museum is open to visitors on Mondays to Fridays by appointment. (Tel: +39.010.5586163 - +39.010.5586464).
